Digital waste tracking for consultants and TCMs managing several sites

If you're the technically competent manager or consultant for several permitted sites, the duty is still each operator's. What you can do is get every client set up the same way, and see every site on one screen.

The duty
Stays with each permit holder: the operator of the site that receives the waste.
Defra
Each client organisation registers itself, gets its own API code and pays its own £26.
Sites
One API code covers every site that organisation runs.
Set-up
Send me the client list in one email. Each site is loaded for them before anyone logs in.

GOV.UK's guidance doesn't say whether one consultant can register on behalf of several operators. If that matters to how you work, ask Defra's helpline, 03000 203 781, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

Setting several client sites up in one go

  1. Send one email to wilf@byrnedigitalsolutions.co.uk with a line per site: company name, site address, permit number, and the email of the person at the site who will use it.
  2. I check each permit on the Environment Agency's register and email each client direct, with you copied.
  3. Each site is loaded before anyone logs in: permit, address, carriers and usual waste codes.
  4. Each client registers with Defra and the API code goes in. The ten steps.
  5. You see every site on one screen, the Clients tab, with anything overdue at the top.

A mobile plant operator with several deployments under one permit is one site. The full consultant page: how a referral works, what you get in the app, and the 15% recurring share. A pack to forward to clients.

Different clients, different sites

Each type of site has its own codes and catches. The guides below are written for the person at the gate, so they're useful to send on.

Questions people ask

Can a consultant do digital waste tracking for a client?

The duty stays with the operator of the permitted site. A consultant can help set it up, check codes and keep an eye on each site. Whether one consultant can register for several operators isn't covered in GOV.UK's guidance: ask Defra's helpline.

Does each client need its own API code?

Each organisation registers separately and gets its own API code. One code covers every site that organisation runs.

Does each client pay the £26?

Yes. It is £26 a year for each organisation, covering all of its waste-receiving sites.

How do I set up several client sites at once in Byrne Waste Tracking?

Email me a line per site: company name, site address, permit number and the email of the person at the site. I check each permit, email each client direct with you copied, and load each site before anyone logs in.

Can I see all my clients' sites in one place?

Yes. The Clients tab shows every client and site you cover on one screen, with the permit, loads, the last load and a status for each, overdue at the top.

Want this done for you at the gate?

Byrne Waste Tracking runs in the browser on a phone or computer, with nothing to install. It remembers your carriers and their numbers, offers the waste codes and R or D codes your site uses, checks each load against Defra's rules first, and sends it to Defra automatically once you've linked your Defra account. Byrne Digital Solutions is listed on GOV.UK as a compatible software provider.

£89 per site per month, no contract. Join before 1 November 2026 and nothing is due until 1 November; join from 1 November and you get 14 days free. After that it's £89 a month per site, and there's no card to enter until you start it. No setup fee when you set it up yourself. If a consultant introduces you, any setup fee is agreed through them and you see the amount before you pay anything.

A site in Scotland or Northern Ireland that joins before 1 January 2027 pays nothing until 1 January 2027, the day the duty starts there.
