BDS Byrne Waste Tracking
Client summary
Recommended to you byyour consultant

Digital waste tracking for your site, set up for you.

Since 1 October 2026, permitted sites in England and Wales that receive waste have to report each load to Defra within two working days. Scotland and Northern Ireland start on 1 January 2027. Byrne Waste Tracking is how you do it from the gate, and your consultant has suggested it for your site.

What it is

  • Log each load on a phone, tablet or computer at the gate. Nothing to install: it runs in the browser.
  • It remembers your carriers and usual wastes, so a repeat load is a few taps.
  • It sends each load to Defra automatically once you've linked your Defra account, and checks it against Defra's rules first.
  • Shows the due date on every load. It doesn't read a weighbridge: you type the weight from the ticket.

What it costs

Setupany setup fee is agreed through your consultant, and you see the amount before you pay anything £89a month per site

Join before 1 November 2026 and nothing is due until 1 November; join from 1 November and you get 14 days free. After that it's £89 a month per site, and there's no card to enter until you start it.

A site in Scotland or Northern Ireland that joins before 1 January 2027 pays nothing until 1 January 2027, the day the duty starts there.

Monthly, no contract. Every login at your site is included. You pay Byrne Digital Solutions direct.

Defra's own service charge, £26 a year per organisation, is separate and paid to Defra.

How setup works

  1. Your consultant sends me your company, site address and permit number.
  2. I email you, with your consultant copied. If there is a setup fee, you see the amount before you pay anything.
  3. I load your permit, site address, carriers and usual waste codes.
  4. You get your login and the £89 monthly link.
  5. You register with Defra and paste your Defra API code into the app.
  6. You log loads. Your consultant can see your site's status.

Good to know

  • Paper carries on alongside: transfer notes and consignment notes as now.
  • Problems are caught before they're sent.
  • Your records stay yours: Defra's own spreadsheet, or a download of every load, whenever you like.
  • Byrne Digital Solutions is listed on GOV.UK as a compatible software provider.
