Is your site ready for Defra's digital waste tracking?

Ten quick questions. You get what is ready, and the one fix for anything that isn't, with the guide for it. Nothing you type leaves this page: there is no form behind it and nothing is saved.

1Where is the site?
2Does the site have an environmental permit (or waste management licence) and receive waste?
3Is your organisation registered on Defra's Report receipt of waste service, with the organisation's sign-in?

The organisation's Government Gateway or GOV.UK One Login, not a personal one.

4How will each load reach Defra?
5Is a named person entering every load within two working days, with someone covering holidays and sickness?
6Do you have the waste carrier registration number for each haulier that delivers to you?
7Do you know the waste (EWC) codes and R or D codes your permit allows?
8Have you worked out the due dates over Christmas and New Year?
9If Defra's service or your software is down, do you know what to do?
10Do you know who pays Defra's £26 charge, and when?

It remembers your carriers and their numbers, offers the codes your site uses, checks each load against Defra's rules before it saves, and sends it to Defra automatically once you've linked your Defra account. £89 per site per month, no contract. A new site starts free: from 1 November 2026, every new site gets 14 days free, then £89 a month. A site in Scotland or Northern Ireland that joins before 1 January 2027 pays nothing until 1 January 2027, the day the duty starts there.
