Software for Defra's digital waste tracking, made for small permitted sites that receive waste.

Who makes it

I'm Wilf Byrne, a sole trader in the UK. I built Byrne Waste Tracking and run it myself. It is listed on GOV.UK as a compatible software provider for Defra's digital waste tracking service. I'm an independent supplier: not affiliated with or endorsed by Defra or the Environment Agency.

What it does

At the gate: You type each load on a phone or computer, in the browser. There is no app to install, and it doesn't read a weighbridge: you enter the weight.
To Defra: It sends each load to Defra automatically once you've linked your Defra account, and checks it against Defra's rules first, so problems are caught before they're sent.
The rule: Mandatory in England and Wales since 1 October 2026: every load reported within two working days. Scotland and Northern Ireland start in January 2027, on the same service.
Price: £89 a month per site, monthly, no contract. Nothing is due until 1 November 2026; from 1 November every new site gets 14 days free, then £89 a month.
